Evaluate A Greener Approach
Energy costs are down, so now is the perfect time to take a look at how to become a ‘greener’ business – before costs begin to creep back up. You can’t manage what you can’t measure, so take time to gather the facts, and compare choices and data for a greener approach.
Here are a few tips to get started:
– Compare providers. By shopping for electricity suppliers in your area, you may be able to find a better price or options more tailored to your particular home office or business needs.
– Measure your use to evaluate the savings potential. The United States Small Business Association recommends several tools to assess energy usage.
– Get an app. There’s an app (there are many) for managing your home office or business energy consumption that measures individual device and appliance output, and allows you to weed out the high-usage culprits and replace them with more efficient models.
– Ask employees to turn off their devices. It might be minimal, but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that turning off computers, printers and copiers at night, and setting them to go to sleep after 30 minutes of non-use, can save from $50-$150 annually per device.
Whether you’re trying to save the planet or just a few bucks, a little awareness goes a long way!
